Haley Welch became famous this summer when she made the “Hawk Tua” remark that caused a stir online. New York MetShe accepted the prize after being selected to throw the first pitch before Thursday’s game against the Oakland Athletics.
Mets Fan Fans were unhappy with the team’s decision to invite Welch to throw out the first pitch because the internet celebrity’s popularity grew following a June video in which she used the phrase to describe a sexual act.

“So the Mets decided to have Hawk Tua Girl pitch the first pitch at a summer ‘camp day’ game where the majority of the fans are 11 year olds who’ve come to the ballpark on a camping trip. What the hell were they thinking? Do something better,” one user wrote to X.

Welch acknowledged the criticism on social media on Friday, noting that his appearance at the game was to spread an important message.

“So I guess some people in the baseball world weren’t too happy to see me yesterday,” she wrote in a post on X. “The main reason I went to the game was to spread awareness and donate to American Vet Dogs, which connects dogs with owners.” Veterans For an eternal home.

In the video she shared with the post, Welch is introduced to Buddy, the Mets’ vet dog, who made his debut in May.

Welch received further support on social media on Friday.
“Ironically, you made a vulgar joke and it went viral, but honestly every other interaction I’ve seen you’ve been a positive and encouraging person. I wish you nothing but success. Plus, you’re a dog lover so that’s a well-deserved win,” one user wrote.
Welch has made several appearances since her viral street interview, including an interview on Bill Maher’s podcast, and she also appeared onstage at a Zach Bryan concert.
