On Tuesday on Fox News Channel's “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) argued, based on whistleblower testimony, that former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle lied when she denied that the agency had withheld funds from former Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump before last month's assassination attempt.
The Missouri Republican suggested a cover-up was underway in the case.
“So, Senator, what do these whistleblowers keep telling you?” FNC host Jesse Watters asked.
“good, Jesse“The new whistleblower tells me that Secret Service leaders instructed agents working on the Butler rally not to request additional resources,” Hawley responded. “They told the campaign the same thing. Which, by the way, is in direct contradiction to what the director of the Secret Service told Congress. He said we never turned down a request for resources. But what the whistleblower is saying is, Jesse So we told them up front not to ask for more resources, not to ask for more countersnipers, because if they did, we would reject it. Jesse“This is a lie. What the secretary told Congress is a lie. We need to know why these people are lying to us and what they're hiding.”
“You know, government and how it works,” Watters said. “Why would they say up front, 'Don't ask for this because we're not giving it to you'? Because they didn't want to have any paper trail.”
“Yes, I think that's correct,” Hawley responded. “I think they were trying to misrepresent what the secretary said to Congress, which was, 'Oh, we're not technically or formally denying anything.' Of course, that's because they had said up front, don't ask for it, because if you ask for it we're not going to give it to you. This was an attempt to hold back resources. This was an attempt to deny countersniper. Remember, they finally called in countersniper that day. Jesse“Earlier they said that there would be no anti-sniper forces deployed. Can you imagine what would have happened if there had been no anti-sniper forces at all in this incident?”
“No, I can imagine it, but I don't want to imagine it,” Watters said.
“This is all an attempt to cover up,” Hawley added.
