Heat forward Haywood Highsmith was involved in a traffic accident that left one man in critical condition, according to multiple reports.
Miami forward, According to the South Florida Sun Sentinelwas in an accident on his way home from Caseya Center after the Heat’s win over the Magic on Tuesday night.
Fox Sports 640 South Florida host Andy Slater reports.Police officials said Highsmith hit a man who was helping another driver who was stuck in the middle of the road.
Slater said the man who was hit by Highsmith is now in critical condition and has had part of his leg amputated.
The Miami Herald reported. Highsmith was not injured in the accident.
Following the incident, the Heat ruled Highsmith out of Wednesday’s game against the Spurs.
“We have learned that Highsmith was involved in a car accident on his way home from last night’s game. Highsmith is listed as unavailable for tonight’s game against the San Antonio Spurs due to personal reasons.
“Our hearts go out to those injured. We have no further comment at this time.”
Highsmith played three minutes in Tuesday’s win, but no points were scored.
The 27-year-old, currently in his third season with Miami, is averaging 5.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 20.7 minutes per game this season.
