Anime Expo Faces Overcrowding Issues

On Friday, attendees at Anime Expo found themselves stuck outside as a surge of fans created significant traffic issues and overcrowded hallways. This led organizers to temporarily suspend admissions to the popular event.

This day marked the second of a four-day extravaganza celebrating Japanese pop culture at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Last year’s Anime Expo saw participation from roughly 410,000 people. On that same Friday, security had to prevent fans from entering due to crowding.

“The fire marshal said Anime Expo was at capacity and wouldn’t let us in,” commented one user on X. They added later, “P.S. I was let through after 20 minutes.”

Images circulating on X and Reddit depicted long lines stretching outside the venue and tightly packed crowds within the hallways.

One attendee expressed concern about safety, noting, “My constant fear for AX is crowds and crashes because we need more people directing movement. I’m surprised firefighters haven’t intervened yet.”

Anime Expo draws cosplayers from across the globe, with fans dedicating months to creating intricate outfits inspired by beloved characters. A cosplay gathering featuring characters from “Chainsaw Man” to “Naruto” is expected to occur this weekend.

The hectic atmosphere came just hours after a sizable police presence monitored attendees who had gathered informally outside the convention center after the first day of the event. The Los Angeles Police Department indicated that officers were on standby as a precaution, considering the crowd size.
