‘He doesn’t know what he’s talking about’: Biden bashes Trump on the economy

President Biden said Thursday that former President Donald Trump doesn't know what he's talking about about the economy, citing comments from his political opponents that he expects the U.S. economy to collapse.

“Did you hear him say he wants to see the stock market crash?” Biden said Thursday in a speech in Raleigh, North Carolina. “We're on track, and he admits that. We're doing pretty well economically and things are getting better.” He wants to see the stock market crash. you know why? He doesn't want to be the next Herbert Hoover. ”

“He's already a Hoover,” the president continued. “Some of the things he says, well, we haven't even started yet. But frankly, to put it very politely, he doesn't know what he's saying.”

President Trump recently said that if an economic collapse were to occur, he would like it to happen before he takes office in January 2025 if he is re-elected, and that he does not want to be known as Hoover. Former President Hoover had only been in office for a few months when the stock market crashed in 1929, causing the Great Depression.

In numerous speeches, including one recently, Mr. Biden has cited Mr. Trump as one of two presidents, along with Mr. Hoover, who left office with less work than when they took office.

“My predecessor has often said that America is a failed nation. Bless my father for his sins because of my faith,” Biden said, making the sign of the cross on himself. “I mean, come on. Failed nation?”

He also claimed that under the Trump administration, public investment in infrastructure and education has been cut and factories closed.

Biden used the speech as a platform to promote his economic policies, announcing $82 million in new investments to connect homes and businesses in the Tar Heel State to high-speed internet.

North Carolina is a key battleground state where President Trump defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2020 and 2016.

The Biden campaign has recently stepped up its efforts in the state and other battleground states. Vice President Harris visited North Carolina last week to discuss combating gun violence.
