Trump Defends Kennedy Amid Attacks
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump commented that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. possesses “many good ideas,” amid ongoing criticisms from political opponents.
During a press conference on the White House’s South Lawn on Sunday, just before heading to the US Open Finals, Trump was asked about the various attacks directed at Kennedy.
“Well, he’s a different kind of guy,” Trump stated. “He has a lot of good ideas, but he has a lot of ideas. Usually, they don’t have ideas, which is sort of why they struggle with autism and other issues—because they try to find solutions for autism.”
He added, “We offer solutions that work for regular people. He has many ideas, and I do too, I think.”
Last month, Kennedy made moves to revoke emergency use authorizations for the coronavirus vaccine, aiming to make it available to those who consult with their doctors. He also mentioned pursuing a placebo-controlled trial from pharmaceutical companies. Last week, Trump called for more transparency regarding the efficacy of coronavirus treatments from these companies.
Kennedy recently testified before the Senate Finance Committee, facing tough scrutiny from Senators Ron Wyden and Elizabeth Warren. In a notable moment, he confronted Warren about accepting funding from pharmaceutical companies, pointing out that while the vaccine is available, not everyone supports its use.
He remarked, “We never guaranteed we would endorse a product lacking evidence. We know we received $855,000 from the pharmaceutical company. We are Senators.”
Criticism from political figures persisted into Sunday, with one calling Kennedy “silly” and categorizing him as “completely unqualified.”
