Allegations Against Former Michigan Wolverines Coach
Paige Shiver, who previously worked as an executive assistant for the Michigan Wolverines’ football team, has claimed she felt manipulated by former head coach Sherrone Moore during their nearly four-year relationship, which she described as an “open secret” among staff.
In her first public comments since Moore’s arrest for trespassing in December 2025, Shiver, now 32, reported that their relationship, initially consensual, left her feeling increasingly trapped. She accused Moore, 40, of telling her that her marriage lacked love and that he intended to divorce her soon. Shiver recounted that whenever she attempted to end things, he would threaten suicide or plead with her to stay.
“He had complete control over me, my emotions, my career. And he knew that and used it against me. Every time I tried to leave, he always had a story,” Shiver stated. “He made me feel like I couldn’t leave him because he was so miserable without me.”
Moore was sentenced to 18 months of probation earlier this month after being fired from the University of Michigan due to his relationship with Shiver. He pleaded no contest to charges of trespassing and malicious use of telecommunications equipment, avoiding a potential six-month prison sentence. As part of a plea agreement, a burglary charge against him was dropped.
The charges against Moore relate to an incident on December 10, the day of his dismissal, when he purportedly entered Shiver’s apartment, blamed her for his job loss, and threatened to harm himself with a butter knife. Shiver indicated that he repeatedly told her to leave because he feared for his life.
“He’s 64 years old, and he came in with his hood up, looked down at me, and cried, saying I had ruined his life,” she recalled. “He wouldn’t listen to me. Then he started grabbing a butter knife.”
Shiver remarked that she believed he understood he could control her. “He knew he had power over me,” she added.
In response, the University of Michigan issued a statement saying, “We discovered a private working relationship between Sherone Moore and a direct report and immediately terminated him. His conduct violated university policy, and we expect more from our leaders. The University of Michigan is committed to ensuring a professional and respectful workplace for all members of our community.”
