Hear Dave Sims announce the last out of the Yankees' Game 3 wild-card victory.

Yankees fans were treated to an exciting playoff atmosphere on Thursday night, filled with a different kind of soundtrack this year. Dave Sims commented on Game 3’s outcome as the Bronx Bombers moved on to face the Blue Jays in the American League Division Series.

In a decisive three-game wild card series, the Yankees took down the Red Sox, sealing the final match with a solid 4-0 victory. Cam Schlitler delivered a stellar performance, throwing four innings while the batters kept the momentum going for eight innings.

“The joy is going to be immense,” Sims expressed during the broadcast. “0-1, here’s the swing, it’s going down the left field line. McMahon has room. He’s there, and the Yankees clinch the win!”

“With this wildcard round victory, they’ve sent the Boston Red Sox packing!”

This series marked a noteworthy moment, as it was the first for both the organization and its fans, with someone other than John Sterling calling the playoff radio broadcast.

Sims has been on the air since Sterling’s retirement in April 2024 but returned to the booth during the second half of the season, ready to go for the postseason and aiming for a World Series run.

He added that this was a milestone for him, being the lead play-by-play broadcaster during this year’s playoffs. It’s interesting, as he noted, “You know, with teams like Boston and the Yankees, we’re looking at one of the most intense rivalries in North American sports.”

His excitement was palpable, especially after the Mariners’ long playoff drought; now, it feels like he’s reached a new level.
