Knicks Grab Championship After 53 Years

As the clock wound down, the Knicks secured their first NBA championship in over five decades with a nail-biting 94-90 win in Game 5. Tyler Murray, the voice of the Knicks on the radio, animatedly shared the moment with listeners.

“It’s happening, Knicks fans! It’s really happening! After 53 long years, this moment is just incredible. A historic playoff run and a team that will be remembered forever. Next stop: the Canyon of Heroes! The New York Knicks are NBA Champions!”

Murray, who took over as the Knicks’ radio announcer last season, previously worked with the Boston Red Sox’ Triple-A team. Now, he stands as the 13th former broadcaster from PawSox/WooSox to make a mark in the major leagues, whether it’s in MLB, NFL, or NBA.

Before his stint in Worcester, he had a six-year run as the lead broadcaster for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, affiliated with the Toronto Blue Jays. Murray began his broadcasting journey with the Daytona Cubs back in 2012 after earning his degree from Boston University the previous year.

In just his second season with the Knicks, he captured the city’s attention by guiding them to victory. After being hired by MSG Networks, Murray expressed how meaningful this role is to him.

“My family and I are beyond thrilled. It’s been a lifelong dream to call a Knicks game,” he said, adding that he feels privileged to represent those who have supported him throughout his journey.

This milestone moment for Murray was amplified by his championship call. Now, the excitement continues as the Knicks prepare for a celebratory parade in the Canyon of Heroes this Thursday.
