Heavyweight Left-Wing Donors Back Kamala Harris

A group of deep-pocketed progressive donors has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election, The New York Times reported Monday.

The Democracy Alliance, a major center-left donor group, voted Sunday to endorse Harris in the next election. according to The group’s members, who joined a coalition of wealthy donors backing Harris, have given more than $2 billion to liberal campaigns and organizations over the past two decades, according to The New York Times.

The Democratic Alliance was not established to distribute funds, but rather to serve as a forum for wealthy liberal donors to coordinate spending. according to When the organization was first founded, prospective members were required to pay a $25,000 initiation fee to join the club, plus another $30,000 in annual dues and contribute a minimum of $200,000 annually to causes supported by the Democracy Alliance.

Democracy Alliance claims to have channeled money to win “critical Midwestern governorship positions” in the 2022 midterm elections.

“Together we are working not only to defend our democracy, but to build it into the just, multiracial, feminist democracy we deserve,” the group’s website says.

Harris got more good news early Monday when Disney heiress Abigail Disney, who had threatened to withhold donations from the Democratic Party unless President Joe Biden was removed from the running, announced she would donate to Harris’ campaign and host a fundraiser for the vice president, The New York Times reported. Suzi Tompkins Buell, a California-based megadonor who supported Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign, also plans to host a fundraiser for Harris.

Ron Conway, a leading liberal donor from Silicon Valley, has also pledged to support Harris. “The tech industry must unite to defeat Donald Trump and unite behind Vice President Kamala Harris to protect our democracy,” Conway said in a statement, according to The New York Times.
