Military Planner Fired Over Alleged Leaks
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has significantly reshuffled personnel at the Pentagon, dismissing the military’s chief planner, as reported by sources to CBS News.
According to a Pentagon official, Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia allegedly failed three polygraph tests regarding information allegedly shared with the media. Sylvia had served as the director for strategy, plans, and policy within the Pentagon Joint Staff for nearly a year.
The anonymous official indicated that Sylvia leaked classified details concerning the ongoing conflict in Iran and the Russia-Ukraine War.
The Atlantic was the first to break the news of Sylvia’s termination.
CBS News noted that two additional Pentagon sources affirmed that Sylvia’s dismissal was linked to the polygraph tests, although they asserted that the claims against him were inaccurate.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell addressed the situation in a social media post without specifically naming Sylvia.
“The Department of War maintains a strict policy against the unauthorized disclosure of classified information. Those who jeopardize sensitive national security details not only endanger the lives of our servicemen and women but also undermine military operations that safeguard our nation,” Parnell stated.
He mentioned that the agency undertook necessary personnel actions to safeguard important information following a thorough investigation conducted by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
“For the sake of the investigation’s integrity, additional comments on the individual or the context surrounding this action will not be disclosed. This issue, along with others, has been forwarded to the Justice Department for potential legal considerations,” he added.
A spokesperson for the Joint Staff had initially released a statement commending Sylvia for his three decades of military service, but this statement was later withdrawn.
“After further evaluation, we concluded that the statement did not adequately capture the full situation,” the spokesperson remarked. “In consideration of the servicemember and the continuing personnel process, we will refrain from further comments.”
Amid these developments, President Donald Trump remarked to reporters that Sylvia is facing “big” issues.
“We are actively seeking out leakers,” Trump added.
“Classified information is not personal property,” Parnell emphasized. “Leaking it for personal, political, or professional advantage is a profound breach of trust. Our vow was not an empty promise. We pledged to find you, and we meant it.”
Sylvia has not responded to requests for comment from the AP, and attempts by Blaze News to contact him have not succeeded.
