Multiple sources report that Defense Secretary Pete Hegses has dismissed the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) after preparing a preliminary report on a strike in Iran from June.
New York Times mentions that a “second-level defenseman and senator” has confirmed the firing of General Jeffrey Cruze from his role as DIA director. This marks the second high-level military intelligence official to be let go since President Donald Trump took office.
Air Force Lieutenant General Jeffrey Cruze joins a list of senior Pentagon officials who have been removed since Trump assumed the presidency, and he is the second official associated with the Military Intelligence Bureau to be dismissed. General Timothy D. Howe, the director of the National Security Bureau, was ousted earlier this spring following complaints from a right-wing conspiracy theorist.
Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) expressed concerns over what he described as a “dangerous practice” by the Trump administration, suggesting the dismissal was more about loyalty than national security.
The report indicated that senior defense officials felt Cruze had become “no longer useful” as the director of the Intelligence Reporting Agency, although it remains unclear if he will be offered another role in the Air Force. Two Congressional sources indicated that Hegses reportedly lost trust in him.
According to sources, the Washington Post also confirmed Cruze’s firing but did not provide specific reasons beyond a “loss of confidence.”
Details point out that Cruze’s termination follows a “preliminary evaluation from the DIA” concerning the Trump administration’s strike against three key nuclear facilities in Iran.
As noted by Breitbart News, Trump previously claimed on Truth Social that the “damage to Iran’s nuclear sites” was substantial, while the DIA report suggested that Iran’s nuclear capabilities had only been hindered temporarily.
“Damage to Iran’s nuclear sites is considered to be significant,” Trump stated in a post from June, adding, “The strikes were precise and our military showed exceptional skill. Thank you!”
