Kelly and Hegseth Clash Over Military Service Remarks
Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly recently faced criticism from Army Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding a post about his military service. Hegseth remarked that Kelly “can’t even wear his uniform properly,” highlighting specific flaws in a video where Kelly urged military personnel to “reject illegal orders.” This came just after the Department of the Army announced an investigation into Kelly for potential misconduct.
“So, ‘Captain’ Kelly, your incendiary video not only undermines good order and discipline but also fails to display the uniform correctly,” Hegseth commented on Kelly’s post on X. He pointed out that Kelly’s medals were out of order and that uniform inspections would be a part of any future active duty recall.
In his original post, Kelly shared a photo of himself in uniform and recounted his military service, stating, “At the age of 22, I was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army.” He emphasized his commitment to the Constitution throughout his career, which included various missions on the USS Midway, numerous deployments, and even a stint at NASA involving space shuttle flights.
“I did all of this in service to this country that I love,” Kelly added, recalling the challenges he faced, including the aftermath of his wife Gabby’s shooting while she served her constituents.
As for Kelly’s office, they did not immediately respond to inquiries for comments on the matter.
Additionally, the Pentagon mentioned that Kelly could face further military disciplinary actions, potentially leading to a court-martial under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. They affirmed that the situation would be handled fairly, ensuring due process.
Kelly, responding to the situation, declared that intimidation tactics would not deter him or his colleagues from doing their jobs. “I’ve given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies,” he said, emphasizing his dedication to holding the administration accountable.
