New York City Heiress Reveals Divorce Drama

Belle Baden, a New York City heiress, recounts a surprising moment with her ex-husband following their divorce announcement. She describes how he asked her to make him a sandwich right after revealing to their children that he was leaving her.

The mother of three detailed her tumultuous relationship with hedge fund executive Henry Davis in her recently released memoir during a podcast interview. The exchange she shared raised eyebrows, particularly given the context of their family meeting.

In early 2020, Baden, who is the granddaughter of the famous socialite Babe Paley, and her husband sat down with their children on Martha’s Vineyard to share the news. This occurred about a month after Davis had abruptly left their home while they were quarantining together.

“I was sitting on the couch with my girls, arms around them, when my husband walked in front and said, ‘I’m not happy and I’ve decided to divorce,’” she recounted on the podcast.

Her younger daughter initially thought it was a joke, but upon seeing Baden’s sad expression, she erupted in tears. Meanwhile, the older daughter sat with crossed arms, simply staring at her father.

Then, in a peculiar twist, Davis turned to Baden and said, “I’m hungry. Can you make me a sandwich?” This revelation is just the latest chapter from Baden’s memoir, Strangers: A Memoir of a Marriage, where she discusses Davis’s affair and the unraveling of their two-decade-long marriage.

Baden, 56, discovered her husband’s unfaithfulness through a voicemail left by his mistress. At the time, they were in a $7.5 million vacation home on Martha’s Vineyard with their two youngest children.

She recounts in her memoir that Davis eventually left without even saying goodbye to the kids and informed Baden of the divorce over the phone.

“I thought I was happy, but I’m not. I thought I wanted our life, but I’m not,” Davis allegedly told her, claiming a sudden realization that their marriage was over.

Baden asserts he told her she could have custody of their child and that he didn’t want any part of their life together anymore.

In the wake of these startling revelations, Davis has mostly refrained from making public comments. He did issue a brief statement expressing disagreement with Baden’s narrative while emphasizing his ongoing support for their children.
