Helicopter Crash in Kauai Claims Lives

Tragedy struck Thursday afternoon when a tour helicopter crashed off the coast of Kauai, Hawaii, resulting in at least three fatalities.

The helicopter, which was carrying a pilot and four passengers, went down into the ocean near Kalalau Beach around 3:45 p.m. local time, as confirmed by the Kauai Police Department.

A notification regarding the crash was sent through the police department’s text message 911 system.

According to reports from Hawaii News Now, the helicopter, operated by Airborne Aviation, crashed approximately 100 yards from the Na Pali coastline, as detailed by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Kauai, famous for its stunning mountain and cliff vistas, also served as a backdrop for the 1993 blockbuster, Jurassic Park.

Two individuals survived the incident and were transported to Wilcox Medical Center in Lihue, though their current conditions have not been revealed.

Kauai Mayor Derek Kawakami described the situation as “evolving” and urged residents to refrain from speculating about the crash’s circumstances.

As of now, officials have not disclosed the names of the deceased or the reasons behind the crash.

Airborne Aviation is known for offering “door-to-door thrill-seeking adventure tours,” showcasing breathtaking views of Kauai’s coastlines, waterfalls, and canyons during flights that last about 55 minutes.

The fleet includes the Hughes 500 helicopter, a light aircraft celebrated for its speed and maneuverability.
