Kimmel Reacts to Greene’s Resignation

Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel expressed his enthusiasm upon learning that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) plans to resign from Congress on January 5, just three days from now. This decision appears to be aligned with her eligibility for a parliamentary pension.

Kimmel is notably pleased that Greene has publicly stood against Donald Trump, and he shares his relief about her departure from Congress.

“There will be one less puddle of sweat on the floor mats in the Capitol gymnasium,” he quipped, adding that Greene, a staunch Trump supporter, seems to have realized that loyalty to Trump is not mutual.

After airing part of Greene’s resignation video, Kimmel welcomed her to “reality” with a touch of sarcasm, encouraging her to explore the science building.

In her resignation letter and video, Greene criticized both the president and the Republican Party. She mentioned how Americans are manipulated by the political-industrial complex of both parties during election cycles, leading to a recurring outcome: regardless of who wins, ordinary Americans see no improvement in their lives.

“It pains me that so many young people today feel hopeless about their future and doubt they can achieve the American dream,” Greene shared. She added that her motivation for running for Congress in 2020 stemmed from her belief in the America First philosophy.

Recently, Greene has been attempting to separate her stance from that of Trump, notably voicing her disagreement with U.S. support for Israel. She also expressed her disappointment over Trump’s earlier attempts to withhold the Epstein files, although he has since reversed that position, now advocating for their release.

Speculation is swirling that Greene, whose wealth has reportedly increased by around $21 million during her congressional tenure, may be eyeing a run for the governorship of Georgia or possibly even the presidency in 2028. However, she has denied these rumors.
