NASCAR’s Hendrick Motorsports Makes Vehicle Deal with ICE

Recently, Hendrick Motorsports (HMS), famous for its 15-time NASCAR Cup Series championships, entered into a contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) involving the purchase of over 20 Chevrolet vehicles. This was reported across multiple sources on Wednesday.

Earlier this year, Hendrick Motorsports Technical Solutions, a prominent name in auto racing, completed renovations and unveiled a new 160,000-square-foot facility on the main campus in Concord, North Carolina, just a stone’s throw from Charlotte.

The contract, worth $1.5 million and signed in October, confirms that Hendrick Motorsports can immediately supply vehicles that align with ICE specifications and can meet these requirements swiftly.

Initially, ICE had approved a budget of $2.25 million for the contract, but the two parties eventually agreed on the lower figure of $1.5 million.

This deal included funding to enhance 25 Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs, as outlined in the contract reviewed by various sources.

Though Hendrick Motorsports didn’t provide direct comments, a spokesperson relayed that the Chevrolets were sold to ICE without any modifications, and the transaction was finalized completely.

What’s interesting about this contract is that it was noncompetitive; HMS had informed the federal government that it could deliver the entire order immediately, citing an “urgent and compelling need” for the vehicles.

Established in 2019, HMS’s Technology Solutions division partners with several major entities, including General Motors’ military branch. When unveiling the restructuring of this division in January, company President Marshall Carlson highlighted Rick Hendrick’s vision for future development. He emphasized the aim for HMS Technical Solutions to cater to complex customer demands and lead in advanced manufacturing, ensuring long-term success.

In other NASCAR news, Kyle Larson, driving the #5 Hendrick Chevrolet, recently was crowned the 2025 Cup Series champion after edging out veteran Denny Hamlin from Joe Gibbs Racing at Phoenix.

Meanwhile, Chase Elliott, also a Hendrick driver, was once again recognized as NASCAR’s most popular driver for 2025, boasting support from 56% of fans for his No. 9 NAPA Chevrolet. Elliott previously won the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2020.

Hendrick’s early success in the Cup Series was marked by current vice president Jeff Gordon, who led the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet to four championships in the mid-‘90s and early 2000s.

For Hendrick Motorsports, current drivers include Alex Bowman, piloting the #48 Alley Chevrolet, and William Byron, who drives the #24 Axalta Chevrolet.
