With less than a week until President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, he has begun planning who will attend various events in Washington to mark his return to the White House.
Trump has invited a number of other people, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, but it is unclear whether they will travel to the United States to welcome Trump back into office.
The following people have been confirmed to attend President Trump's inauguration so far:
president biden
President Biden announced last month that he would attend President Trump's inauguration.
“Of course” he would attend, he said, noting that the only outgoing president not to attend the ceremony was Trump himself, who lost to Biden in 2020. Former first lady Melania Trump also did not attend Biden's inauguration.
former president obama
Former President Obama will attend the ceremony on January 20th, but his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, will not attend. The Obama family announced in a statement that the former president will attend President Trump's second inauguration.
The statement did not explain the absence. Her decision not to attend President Trump's inauguration breaks with tradition for most former presidents and their wives, with the exception of the Trumps in 2020.
President Obama recently sat next to President Trump at former President Carter's funeral last week. The two were notable for their laughter and conversation at the ceremony.
Former President Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush
Former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush are scheduled to attend, the president's office announced. Associated Press reported.
Former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
Former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also attend next week's ceremony.
It is worth noting that Hillary Clinton attended Trump's first inauguration in 2017 after losing the 2016 presidential election to him.
Elon Musk
Elon Musk, who was selected to co-direct President Trump's Office of Government Efficiency, is scheduled to travel to Washington to attend the inauguration.
Musk, who donated millions of dollars to the Trump campaign, has become a close ally of the president-elect. The tech billionaire's continued political engagement with Trump ahead of the inauguration has raised concerns about Musk's influence over Trump.
jeff bezos
Amazon owner Jeff Bezos is also expected to attend. The Washington Post reported.
Bezos, who also owns aerospace company Blue Origin, recently expressed optimism about the new Trump administration's space policy.
mark zuckerberg
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will attend the inauguration and will sit next to Bezos and Musk.
The tech trio is expected to sit near other former presidents, members of Trump's family, members of Congress and Cabinet nominees, making it an important seat for the group, the Post reported.
