These are the Democrats who've been arrested, detained or charged under Trump

Numerous Democrats have faced arrest, detention, or charges during the Trump administration as part of a significant crackdown on illegal immigration.

Ken Martin, the chair of the Democratic National Committee, has spoken out against their treatment, suggesting that lawmakers are being unjustly targeted.

“These elected officials have been arrested just for doing their jobs,” he stated in a recent post on Social Platform X.

“Once again, the Trump administration is silencing those who dare to oppose them openly.”

Let’s take a look at some recent incidents involving arrested Democrats.

NYC Comptroller Brad Lander

Brad Lander, a mayoral candidate and New York City Director, was handcuffed by multiple ICE agents outside an immigration court on Tuesday while trying to assist a defendant. He urged the ICE agents to provide a valid judicial warrant for the arrest.

“I’m not obstructing; I’m just standing here asking for a judicial warrant,” Lander asserted as he was being detained, a moment captured in a video shared by his wife.

“You can’t arrest U.S. citizens without authority,” he added, before quickly heading for an elevator with law enforcement.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed in a follow-up press conference that Lander was later released with all charges dropped.

Since then, numerous Democrats have condemned a pattern of arrests targeting party members.

“The aggressive pursuit of democratically elected officials by the Trump administration is endangering civil servants,” one statement read.

“This is America. Upholding judicial warrants and law enforcement activities shouldn’t be seen as criminal behavior,” the statement continued, asserting that there’s no valid basis for federal investigations.

Senator Alex Padilla

Senator Alex Padilla from California was removed from a press conference on June 12 by the Department of Homeland Security. Despite asking Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem questions, he was escorted out.

“I’m Senator Alex Padilla, and I have a question,” he said just before being confined with an agent and forced to leave the room.

Officials claim Padilla hurried into the area without the customary identification, leading to a misunderstanding of his authority as a lawmaker.

“Padilla was repeatedly told to leave, and his failure to comply led the officers to view him as a threat,” they asserted, justifying their actions.

Padilla spoke out later, calling the incident a threat to constitutional rights.

“If this is how the administration treats senators, I can only imagine what they do to others across the country,” he remarked.

Senator Lamonica Mciver

Representative Lamonica Mciver from New Jersey faces federal charges for allegedly obstructing ICE agents when he visited the Delaney Hall Detention Center. He was overseeing the facility along with two other Democratic colleagues.

On June 10, New Jersey’s interim U.S. attorneys charged Mciver with multiple counts related to the incident. Representative Nancy Mace has since attempted to pass a resolution for his expulsion.

“The facts here indicate I’m just doing my job and reveal a bold attempt at political intimidation,” Mciver claimed, arguing that the indictment lacks merit.

Judge Hannah Dugan

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was charged in early May for allegedly concealing immigrants in her court. It’s claimed she was directed to avoid immigration authorities after insisting that a warrant was necessary for searches.

Following her arrest in April, the Wisconsin Supreme Court temporarily suspended Dugan from her official duties.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka

Mayor Ras Baraka of Newark was briefly arrested after visiting the Delaney Hall Detention Center. While there were initial threats of charges, those were retracted after further review.

“I was cuffed and photographed for a Class C misdemeanor. They claim it was too minor for a preliminary hearing,” Baraka explained.

“If there’s no hearing, why was I fingerprinted and interrogated?” he questioned, asserting that he has filed a lawsuit over the incident, citing his treatment as politically motivated.

Rep. Jerry Nadler’s Staff

In May, staff members of Representative Jerry Nadler from New York were briefly detained when DHS agents searched for “protesters” in his Manhattan office. One agent assisted Nadler, who spoke about a situation involving a “rioter.”

This detention has drawn criticism from fellow Democrats, who believe it reflects a larger strategy by the Trump administration.

“They’re clearly trying to intimidate Democrats, as part of a strategy that aims to unsettle the nation at large,” one representative stated.
