Here’s a look at America’s favorite Christmas cookie searches

New data from Google Trends reveals that Americans have strong feelings about Christmas cookies, and one cookie in particular brightens the mood in many states.

Data taken from Google Trends in early December reveals the most uniquely searched for Christmas cookies. Cookies were divided into categories: “Classic,'' “Festival,'' “Fruit/Nut,'' “Chocolate,'' and “Other.''

One of the cookies in the “Other” category, “Kitchen Sink” cookies contain a myriad of ingredients.

Many of the differences in cookie preferences are regional, New York-based Google Trends expert Sarah Armstrong told Fox News Digital.

“I really like seeing cookie searches broken down by state, because you can see how each region of the country is a little different,” she said.

Armstrong continued, “We're looking at a collection of anonymous search data, and we want to see what the characteristics of each state are.”

“Christmas Crack,” the top cookie in Washington, D.C. and Maryland, has “the consistency of peppermint bark,” she says. “It's a saltier and sweeter cookie.”

Meanwhile, Floridians were searching for “oatmeal raisins” more than anything else, which surprised Armstrong.

“It's not necessarily my favorite cookie, but it's nice to see them excited about it,” she said.

“Gingerbread” was popular on both coasts. It took first place in Maine, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

Buche de Noel (Yule Log) topped the list in California, Tennessee and Louisiana, while residents of Alaska, Vermont and Idaho were looking for the popular sugar cookie more than anything else.

Perhaps surprisingly, there was a notable search for “Italian Christmas cookies” in the US.

The anise-flavored treat was the most uniquely searched cookie in seven states from the Mid-Atlantic to Wyoming.

But even though New York has the largest Italian-American population in the United States, they didn't search for Italian Christmas cookies. However, New Yorkers still felt Mediterranean.

Colorado residents seem to be looking for a shortcut to cookies. Their top search was “cake mix Christmas cookies.”

“Cake mix cookies” come together quickly and usually only require three ingredients: cake mix, oil, and eggs.

Google Trends also published a map showing each state's favorite pie: apple, pecan, or pumpkin.
