Miraculous Rescue Following Boating Accident
A mother of three is on the mend after a devastating boating accident that nearly cost her life, as reported by Idaho State Police.
The woman, who has not been named, was having a day of fun tubing at Bear Lake when she was tragically pulled into a boat’s propeller, resulting in the loss of both her legs.
“I just heard her say, ‘Go get a tourniquet,'” recalled Dan Taylor, who had just arrived at the lake with his family when he found himself amidst the chaos of the situation.
“People were shouting from the bow for help,” Taylor stated. “Someone from the boat yelled, ‘Get the kids out of here.'” He noted that his wife quickly assessed the severity of the incident before he did.
“She told me to grab my paddleboard to use as a stretcher,” he explained. “Then she looked at me and said, ‘Get a tourniquet.'” They learned that both of the woman’s legs had been amputated, but Taylor and his family acted quickly, applying a tourniquet to one leg and using a strap on the other. Medical help took about 10 to 15 minutes to arrive.
“The victim was incredibly brave and stayed conscious throughout,” Taylor shared. “Her ability to remain calm in such a terrifying situation left a strong impression on me.” He mentioned that he kept a set of tourniquets in his van, a precaution he had discussed just weeks prior during a mountain biking first aid course.
As he waited for the ambulance and helicopter, he prayed for her, recounting that, “An hour in that situation felt like an eternity. Severe bleeding like that can take someone’s life in just a few minutes.”
The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office expressed their gratitude towards Taylor. In a social media post, they stated, “These actions ultimately saved her life.”
Taylor expressed his relief that he was in the right place at the right time to lend assistance. “It’s amazing to think about the number of people on that beach. How many of them had tourniquets? Who had first aid training? It was truly a miracle,” he said.
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated for the woman, described as a “dedicated wife, loving mother of three, and a cherished friend.” Authorities have confirmed that the donations will go directly to help her.
