Trump’s Frustration with Netanyahu’s Actions Against Hamas
President Donald Trump is reportedly feeling “irritated” and angry with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because of his decision to target Hamas officials in Qatar, as noted in a Wall Street Journal report from Thursday.
After Israel’s failure to eliminate Hamas leaders in a strike, Trump was quoted saying, “He’s me,” referencing Netanyahu. It seems that Trump has expressed to his aides that he thinks Netanyahu opts for military action rather than diplomacy when addressing Hamas.
So far, attempts to broker peace and negotiate the return of hostages in Gaza have yielded little progress, with Israel continuing its military operations.
Following the strike, Trump reportedly placed two calls to Netanyahu. The first was reportedly filled with dissatisfaction regarding the operation, while the second focused on what was achieved. Ultimately, reports indicate that the strike resulted in the deaths of five Hamas members and one Qatari security guard, but did not neutralize either of the group’s top leaders.
Israeli officials had provided Trump with brief notice before the operation, although there seems to be some inconsistency regarding the specifics. While Trump hasn’t actively sought to curb Israeli military actions recently, Hamas continues to pursue various peace negotiations.
In another development, Israeli forces are urging residents to evacuate Gaza City immediately, raising concerns from aid organizations that moving nearly one million residents could worsen the already dire humanitarian situation.
Support for Israel within Trump’s own party has begun to falter, reflecting growing concerns about the extended conflict in Gaza and the scrutiny surrounding Israel’s actions.
The White House has not yet responded to inquiries for comments on this situation.
