The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Hezbollah fired 30 rockets from Lebanon into northern Israel early on Monday, but no casualties were reported.
“After sirens sounded in northern Israel shortly before, around 30 projectiles were seen coming from Lebanon towards the Kabuli area, some of which fell in an open area,” an IDF spokesman said. “There have been no reports of injuries.”

The barrage comes as Iran and its regional proxies are expected to launch attacks against Israel in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran late last month.
Fighting between Lebanon’s Hezbollah militants and Israeli forces in the north has intensified in recent weeks, raising fears the month-old conflict in the Gaza Strip could escalate.

Late last month, Hezbollah confirmed the death of its “number two” commander, Fuad Shukr, who was involved in the 1983 bombing of the Beirut Marine Barracks that killed 241 U.S. servicemen.
The IDF strikes came in retaliation for an attack in Israel’s Golan Heights that killed more than a dozen young men, but while Hezbollah continues to deny any involvement in the attack, the IDF identified Shukr as the mastermind behind it.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon said on Sunday that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had ordered missile submarines to be sent to the Middle East and had ordered the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group to make a rapid journey to the region.
The United States and other allies have been pushing Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire agreement, which could help ease regional tensions that have risen after the assassinations of Haniyeh and Shukr.

Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement that Secretary of Defense Austin met with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant earlier in the day and reiterated the U.S. commitment to “take all possible steps to defend Israel” and “noted that U.S. is strengthening its military posture and capabilities across the Middle East amid escalating tensions in the region.”
