HHS Finds Maine Violated Title IX by Allowing Males in Female Sports

President Donald Trump's Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Monday announcement Maine violated federal civil rights laws by allowing men to play on women's sports teams.

The Department's Office of Civil Rights (OCR) specifically found that the Maine Department of Education, the Maine Principal Association, and Greeley High School each violated Title IX of the 1972 Educational Amendment.

OCR has launched compliance reviews after boys identifying transgenders He claimed victory at the main class B championship for the Greeley High School track and field team in February. High school boys were allowed to perform on girls' teams, despite Trump's executive order banning men's sports teams. “The Maine Department of Education cannot avoid its obligations under federal law by assigning the management of extracurricular activities, programs and services to the Maine Principal Association.” I said Anthony Archeval, acting director of the Civil Rights Bureau at HHS. “We hope that the Maine Department of Education, the Maine Principal Association and Greeley High School will work with us to reach an agreement to restore fairness in women's sports.”

HHS said the OCR resolution sent to the three entities provides an opportunity to voluntarily commit within 10 days to comply with Title IX.

The HHS findings come after the Department of Education launched its own investigation into Maine following the teenager's victory at the Paul Vault Competition for High School Students.

Last week, the Trump administration ordered the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to suspend federal funds for the University of Maine System (UMS) over its denial of states that refused to protect women's sports.
