High School Track stars at the heart of the controversy by hitting opponents in their heads with batons.
In a published interview On Wavy.com Sunday, senior Alaila Everett from IC Norcom High School shed tears as she explained the perspectives of the event that took place at Virginia's VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championship last week.
“You're physically hurt because everyone has feelings, but you're not thinking about my mind,” Everett said.
“…it seems they're off one angle.”
When he played in the 4×200-meter relay with Brookville High School junior Karen Tucker, Everett approached the opponent when he was rounded, and the baton connected with Tucker's head in a clip from the current Viral scene.
Tucker ran through the track and grabbed the back of his head before being evaluated by the trainer.
She later visited the doctor and was told she had a concussion and “possibly a broken skull.” According to NBC's affiliate WSLS.
“I know my intentions so I'm not going to hit anyone intentionally,” Everett told Wavy.com.
Of her ordeal with Tucker, who Everett said was an accident, she said: I lost my balance when I pumped my arms up again. She was attacked. ”
According to Wavy.com, he connected with Tucker, but was “blocked on social media.”
“They assume my character, and they assume me all this from the 'ghetto' and racial slander, death threat… a nine-second video,” she said.
IC Norcom High School was disqualified from the tournament due to problems.
Tucker's family told WSLS they were asking for an apology from Everett.
According to Wavy.com, her family is “with court documents because Tucker wants a protective order.”
