Hillary Clinton criticizes Republican women as supporters of male dominance.

Hillary Clinton’s Comments on Female Republicans

During a recent interview, Hillary Clinton expressed strong opinions about women in the Republican Party, suggesting that if any of them were to become president, they would end up serving “patriarchal” interests.

“Well, first of all, don’t be waving around a patriarchal handbag that leaves out all women on the other side, except for a small few,” Clinton remarked on May 1, responding to moderator Margaret Hoover’s question about advice for the first female president of the United States.

In the context of the current electoral landscape, several women, including former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, have been vying for the presidency. This past election cycle saw former Vice President Kamala Harris take the Democratic nomination, succeeding Joe Biden. However, like Clinton in 2016, she faced defeat against President Donald Trump.

Clinton’s View on Republican Women

Clinton noted Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski as one of the few Republican women she respects. Murkowski has been vocal in her criticism of Trump, even voting to convict him during his second impeachment trial in 2021. Clinton also had a positive tone when mentioning Liz Cheney, the former GOP representative from Wyoming, who endorsed Biden in 2024 and participated significantly in the January 6 House Committee investigations.

“Yeah, there are a few,” Clinton acknowledged during the interview, which was recorded on May 1 and released recently.

Reflecting on past elections, Clinton recalled the backlash she faced in 2016, where she described a substantial portion of Trump’s supporters as part of a “deplorable basket,” admitting that many white women had voted for Trump, which she found disappointing.

Support for Harris and Future Prospects

Clinton reminisced about her support for Harris during the 2024 campaign and emphasized the challenges that lie ahead in electing a female president. “Look, you have to get there first. That’s obviously much more difficult than it should be,” Clinton said. “So, if a woman runs and seems to be a good president, I will back that woman, just like I believed in Kamala Harris.”
