Hillary Clinton on Wednesday endorsed a Democratic challenger in New York state’s hotly contested House primary against Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), a member of the weak Progressive Squad.
In a post on X, Clinton voiced her support for Westchester County Mayor George Latimer.
“With Trump running, we need strong, principled Democrats in Congress more than ever. In Congress, @LatimerforNY will protect abortion rights, stand up to the NRA, and fight for President Biden’s policies, just as we have always done,” she wrote. “Make a plan to vote by June 25th!”
In response to Clinton’s endorsement, Latimer said, “Her voice adds further momentum to our grassroots movement, which continues to grow stronger through a strong and true commitment to our values and our belief in delivering meaningful results for the communities we serve,” Politico reported.

The endorsement came despite Bowman raising allegations of racism against Latimer during an interview with Politico in the New York suburb of Mount Vernon.

“He’s in the pocket of Republican billionaires who want to take away our voting rights, reproductive rights, affirmative action, and he’s a racist,” Bowman was quoted as saying about Latimer by Politico. “And he’s not just anti-black, he’s anti-Muslim.”
During a debate hosted by Spectrum News on Tuesday, Latimer accused Bowman of ignoring white and Asian residents of Westchester County and parts of the Bronx.

“You make no mention of people who are not black or brown. Jamal, there is one neighborhood that you have ignored and that neighborhood knows that you are ignoring it,” Latimer said.
The primary showdown in New York’s 16th Congressional District comes amid divisions within the Democratic Party, with far-left progressives staunchly opposed to Israel’s war on Gaza, which was launched in retaliation for an Oct. 7 terror attack by Hamas militants. Latimer has received backing from the pro-Israel AIPAC, and his supporters have accused Bowman of appropriating anti-Semitic tropes and conspiracy theories.

Bowman, who is running for a third term, has been endorsed by fellow Democrat “squad” members, including New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. High-profile Sens. Bernie Sanders (Independent, Vermont) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) have also endorsed him.
