Hillary Clinton Addresses Epstein Links

During her sworn testimony on Thursday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton distanced herself from Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender. She suggested that lawmakers direct their questions to her husband, former President Bill Clinton, since his hearing was scheduled for the following day.

While video and transcripts of her deposition have not been made public yet, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) indicated that Clinton claimed she had no memory of ever meeting Epstein and referred many inquiries to her husband.

Comer noted, “There were about a dozen times when she said, ‘I don’t know, I’ll have to ask my husband.'” He explained that this response came up frequently as they were presenting new evidence, including emails suggesting Epstein had close ties to the Clinton family, particularly Hillary, and that he played a significant role in funding the Clinton Foundation.

Reportedly, Clinton described Epstein as a “fraud” during her time in the U.S. Senate and has denied any direct involvement with the Clinton Global Initiative.

Commenting on the deposition, jurist Jonathan Turley remarked that Hillary seemed to throw Bill “under the bus.” This came in response to the committee’s report on her testimony.

The committee opted for private depositions in Chappaqua, New York, as opposed to requiring the Clintons to come to Washington, D.C. This decision followed considerable resistance from the couple and was seen by some as a display of contempt for Congress.

Although the Clintons initially ignored congressional subpoenas, the committee denied their request for this week’s deposition to be a public affair. Comer had previously indicated that depositions would take place privately, but he mentioned that the video and recordings would eventually be accessible to the public.

In her comments after the deposition, Clinton made it clear she wouldn’t participate in any hearings in the future. “I won’t do it again,” she told reporters. “They had the opportunity to do it in public, and I wish they had.”
