Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation” that the treatment of 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during her presidential campaign was “the worst for women.” “This shows that double standards continue to exist.”
Host Kristen Welker said, “There’s a part in the book where in 2016, when I was then-Secretary of State Clinton’s running mate, I said, “Tell me some hard lessons about this country that I thought I understood.” “It’s written,” he said. What’s the lesson? ”
Cain said, “One of the things I learned very strongly in 2016 is that there are still double standards that affect women. Look, I knew that in my head. is married to a professional woman and has seen it in her life and in the lives of others, and to walk that path with Hillary and see good human beings and good public servants brought to justice. I didn’t know that until now. I was harsher than my opponent in many situations, but I think I really earned my PHD while there are still double standards for women.”
He added: “But I also learned something really important on my journey: There’s a lot of polarization in politics in this country. Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Israel, Gaza, things we don’t agree on. There are many, but we need to remember that there are areas where we agree, beyond the surface.”
