He’s here tracking For Olympic glory – but he has no intention of giving up his day job.
A Walmart employee will compete in the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Oregon after his surprise victory in the 60-meter hurdles at February’s Millrose Games.
Dylan Beard, 25, from Raleigh, North Carolina, continues to work 40 hours a week at the deli counter at his local Walmart while training for the exam in June.
And while it might be tempting to focus on hurdles full-time, this elite athlete also keeps track of her deli job while she’s at work.
“At the end of the day, my name is tied to what I do,” he said. “today.” “Yes, I work in a Walmart deli, but it still represents me and it represents a lot of other people.”
Coach Reuben McCoy is in awe of Beard’s dedication, telling Today:
Beard’s boss at Walmart, David Davis, is similarly impressed with the young athlete.
“Dylan’s work ethic is next level,” he enthused. “He always provides excellent customer service. He goes above and beyond as he does on the track.”
If Beard qualifies for the Olympic track and field team, she will represent the United States at the 2024 Olympics in Paris this summer.
He says he’s saving his Walmart paycheck to fund a trip to the City of Love.
But Beard’s dreams go beyond Olympic glory.
The Howard University graduate earned a master’s degree in public health and hopes to eventually become a counselor for at-risk youth, and whether he wins an Olympic gold medal or not, he is determined to is proving to be a winner.
