Hit-and-Run Incident Claims Life of Holocaust Survivor
On Tuesday, an 80-year-old Holocaust survivor and Ukrainian refugee was fatally struck in a hit-and-run incident in Los Angeles. The victim, Andriy Korshunov, was crossing in the San Fernando Valley when a Maserati collided with him and his dog, resulting in their deaths. Korshunov’s family shared that he immigrated to the U.S. after war broke out in Ukraine, and had survived the Holocaust as a child.
Witnesses attempted to assist Korshunov at the scene, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead en route to the hospital.
His daughter, Ilana Korshunov, expressed her deep shock and anger toward the driver, stating, “He didn’t help. He just hit and ran. He killed two souls. I don’t know how he feels about this. What a terrible person to do something like that. Why?”
She added a weighty note about accountability: “God sees everything. He has to do something. First of all, let’s apologize to God for what he did.”
The driver remains unidentified. Witnesses reported that the Maserati stopped briefly after the crash but sped away shortly after. Police recovered an abandoned vehicle nearby, which was missing its license plate.
Authorities are conducting DNA tests on the vehicle in effort to trace the driver and are also examining homes in the vicinity for surveillance footage of the incident.
In a response to the tragedy, authorities have announced a reward of up to $50,000 for tips leading to the capture of the suspect.
Additionally, the victim’s family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and to transport Korshunov’s remains back to Ukraine.
