Trump’s Border Enforcer Takes Aim at NYC Mayoral Candidate
Tom Homan, known for his tough stance on immigration and as an ally of President Trump, has thrown his support behind mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, declaring a commitment to “defeat fascist ICE in New York City” and signaling a call to action for democratic socialists.
Homan, who previously served as the top immigration enforcer in the Trump administration, made his remarks on Wednesday while Mamdani, a young lawmaker from Queens, celebrated his recent victory in the NYC Democratic primary.
Mamdani, poised to confront Trump if he wins, accused the president of using ICE agents against New Yorkers. More details about his campaign can be found on his website.
In a brief exchange with Larry Kudlow on Fox Business, Homan had a rather dismissive take on Mamdani’s claims, stating simply, “Good luck.” He insisted that federal law would consistently supersede local efforts, emphasizing, “We’re in a sanctuary city, and President Trump pointed this out not too long ago.”
Homan underscored the dangers he associates with sanctuary cities, suggesting they pose both public safety and national security risks. He remarked on the need to escalate ICE operations, stating, “We’re going to ramp up workplace enforcement significantly.”
While acknowledging current Mayor Eric Adams for striving to maintain order, Homan expressed concern over limitations faced by the mayor. He believes that collaborations between the NYPD and federal agents are crucial in addressing severe public safety issues, particularly in the context of missing children involved in trafficking.
In a noteworthy incident in March, Mamdani had confronted Homan in the Capitol, protesting the detention of ICE agent Mahmoud Khalil, who faced legal issues regarding his visa. This outburst, which was part of his campaign strategy, resulted in Mamdani’s temporary removal by state troopers.
Mamdani urged his supporters to elect him, promising to combat Trump’s policies that he believes harm the working class and to ensure the safety and dignity of immigrant New Yorkers through reinforced sanctuary measures.
