Trump Border Czar Challenges Gavin Newsom Amid Protests

Tom Homan, a key figure in the Trump administration’s border policies, responded sharply to California Governor Gavin Newsom after the governor suggested Homan should arrest him during a discussion about anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles.

“He’s claiming to be tough, so why not go ahead and arrest me?” Newsom said on MSNBC, adding that he finds it tiring to engage in such provocations, especially when he believes they don’t serve his community well.

This back-and-forth followed Homan’s warning that both Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass could face federal charges for allegedly obstructing ICE operations in the city.

During an interview on “Fox & Friends,” Homan clarified that while he believes no one is above the law, there was no active discussion about arresting the governor. He mentioned that protests are permitted, but crossing the line into violence or illegal activities is unacceptable.

Homan expressed disapproval of the reaction from Democratic officials to the riots that erupted over the weekend in Los Angeles. He described instances where protesters clashed with law enforcement, throwing objects and damaging property.

In a move to address the unrest, President Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard personnel to the city, much to the disappointment of local Democrats. Homan criticized Newsom for being slow to respond to the escalating violence, noting that it took the governor too long to act while the situation deteriorated.

These protests were sparked by ICE’s operations targeting individuals living illegally in sanctuary cities. Homan mentioned that ICE is investigating businesses for serious violations, including money laundering and fraudulent practices related to remittances to criminal organizations.

Newsom, in turn, condemned ICE’s actions, labeling the raids as chaotic and reckless. He argued that such enforcement would damage community trust and undermine the economy by tearing families apart.
