Tom Homan Responds to Calls for Abolishing ICE

On Wednesday, during a segment on FNC’s “The Will Cain Show,” Tom Homan, who oversees border policy, dismissed the idea that Democrats would eliminate ICE.

Host Will Cain brought up remarks from Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL), who claimed, “ICE is the single biggest threat, that ICE needs to be abolished, and we need to create a separate civil immigration system.”

Homan responded by highlighting, “I want to remind her that ICE has arrested hundreds of thousands of individuals who pose safety risks, removing them from our neighborhoods, which makes the country safer. Over 60% of the arrests made by ICE involve criminals. That’s simply a fact. Hundreds of thousands have been deported, and you’d notice that crime rates have gone down, largely due to ICE’s efforts. Additionally, ICE investigates drug smuggling and cases involving technology that could be exploited by our adversaries.”

He elaborated, “They also conduct human trafficking investigations. So really, ICE’s role extends well beyond immigration enforcement. If you want to abolish ICE, you might as well start by abolishing Congress since they are the ones who established the laws that ICE enforces. ICE isn’t making the law up; they are implementing the Immigration Nationality Act that Congress passed and the president signed. If she disagrees with what ICE is doing, then the answer is to reform the law. Abolishing ICE will never happen. If they regain control, they will likely cut funding to it, crippling its ability to perform its duties.”

“And then, who will handle the removal of the millions of people that the Biden administration has released into the country?” Homan questioned. “That’s the ultimate goal here. They stood by for four years as we faced an unprecedented border crisis, during which millions of undocumented individuals were released. Now, they’re targeting the agency responsible for tracking and deporting them. Their stance hasn’t changed at all. This reflects the same open-border mentality that believes there are political advantages in maintaining a large population of undocumented immigrants, whom they assume could become future supporters of the Democratic Party.”
