A home in New Jersey exploded overnight, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals. The blast was described as a fierce flash of light that resonated through the typically quiet area, as reported by officials.
The bodies of a man and a woman, not yet named publicly, were found in the wreckage of the house located in Washington Township, Gloucester County.
Emergency officials referred to the incident as a “fierce fire,” noting that residents woke to a frightening scene of flames erupting in all directions.
“It was horrifying, absolutely horrifying,” neighbor Susan Pinto shared with a local news outlet. “I’ve never witnessed such an explosion in my life. The house was burning to the ground very rapidly.”
Another local resident, Jimmy Gibson, expressed disbelief over how swiftly the fire spread, recalling, “As soon as the explosion happened, the whole house was already in flames.”
Two adjacent houses also suffered damage from the blaze, with one resident, Jill Rauf, stating that half of her home had melted due to the extreme heat.
While authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the deceased, neighbors remembered the man as someone who enjoyed walking a local dog.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and no details have been released yet.
