Witnesses said the man who punched a girl in the face as she was walking with her family in Santa Monica around 7 p.m. Sunday was acting “unusual” while sitting on a bus bench at Main Street and Marine Avenue. It is said that he was doing so.
Santa Monica Police Department Lt. Erika Aklufi said the girl was not seriously injured.
Christina Tulloch said her family was friends visiting from the East Coast and witnessed the attack on the girl. She said they had just been enjoying ice cream when the man attacked them.
“He turned around in his seat, turned and punched my friend’s 6-year-old in the face, causing the child to fall to the ground.” Tulloch told KTTV.
She said she scooped up her child and ran away.
A business owner named Nicole Niss spoke to KABC-TV about the aftermath of the first attack.
“The family fled, but a friend came back and tried to take pictures and has been investigating what happened ever since,” she said. “They came and asked if we had any footage, but unfortunately our cameras only showed the front door.”
“He was out of control.”
Tulloch said he was fed up with the crime in the city, so he returned and followed the man to take photos and give police a description.
“He was out of control, eyes wide open, in some kind of psychotic state. He needs help. It’s scary that we have to live like this.” “We are expected to protect ourselves,” she said. Added.
“There’s no way a six-year-old would be eating ice cream on a city sidewalk!” Tulloch said with tears in his eyes. “I can’t! It’s not safe here!”

A few days later, the same man attacked A 7-year-old boy was found on the Venice boardwalk on Thursday. No other information regarding this attack was available.
Police said they were able to identify and arrest the man as 23-year-old Asante Lamar Morgan. They confirmed he was homeless.
“Incidents like this are an affront to public safety and cannot be tolerated,” Santa Monica Police said in a statement. “Any crime committed in Santa Monica, especially one that involved a child, is one too many crimes. Our department will not tolerate anyone who chooses to victimize the people of this city. We will stand firm against this.”
Police said they are deploying a homeless liaison program team to provide resources to the city’s homeless.
Tulloch had a message for those looking to visit California’s popular destinations.
“Please don’t come to Venice or Los Angeles. It’s not safe with children and the elderly. Please don’t visit us. It’s not controlled,” she said.
