An Ohio homeowner who shot and killed a suspected intruder early Sunday morning told a 911 dispatcher that the intruder had a gun. The homeowner also told 911 that his wife and children were in the residence at the time of the break-in.
WXIX-TV Provided records of Westchester homeowners' calls to authorities:
dispatcher:“Did someone get shot?”
Homeowner: “I just shot someone–he [broke] to my house. ”
dispatcher:“I know he broke into your house and you shot him, but where did you shoot him?”
Homeowner:“He's in my living room and he has a gun.”
dispatcher:“Is he breathing?”
Homeowner:“I'm not sure.”
The homeowner told 911 that his wife and children were home at the time of the break-in and shooting, police said. Here's another call log from WXIX:
Homeowner:“How long will it take for them? About two minutes before he came out, multiple gunshots were heard. [broke] to my house. ”
dispatcher:“So you heard him shooting?”
Homeowner:“Yes, about 10 or 12 times. Last time it was upstairs.”
Police said the homeowner, who lives on the second floor, first heard gunshots on the third floor before the intruder entered.
The homeowner told police he heard noises on his balcony, found an intruder inside his home, and shot the intruder.
WXIX cited two other 911 calls that said other residents living in the same apartment complex or nearby were feeling fearful and anxious. One caller, who identified herself as the mother, called 911 and said she heard loud bangs and noises for hours, followed by gunshots, police said.
“It started moving again, and there was another explosion, then one, two, three, four, five shots. According to WXIX, this appears to be the 10th or 11th shot.” the woman told 911. “I’m sorry, but I have to get my daughter out of here. I don’t know what’s going on, okay?
The homeowner who fired the shot said he did not recognize the suspect, the department said.
Isaiah Erickson, 22, of Colerain Township, was killed, WXIX reported, citing the Butler County Coroner's Office. Erickson was taken to University of Cincinnati Westchester Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the department added.
Westchester Police Department spokeswoman Barb Wilson told WXIX that the homeowner has been cooperative with police. West Chester is about 30 minutes north of Cincinnati.
