Homeowner Thwarts Burglary with Shotgun

A resident in Richmond, New York, discovered an issue with his home security system late Sunday night. He promptly dialed 911, armed himself with a shotgun, and decided to take charge of the situation.

Deputy Michael Largo from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office explained that the homeowner had been monitoring live footage of two individuals entering his property. “He lives close by and went to his home while staying on the phone with 911,” he reported.

Upon arrival, the homeowner spotted a suspicious vehicle parked on his property and noticed flickering lights inside his house.

As per reports, he shouted at the individuals on his property and shot out the tires of their car. According to Officer Rago, a 911 call came in from one of the suspects, who claimed they were inside and would come out with their hands raised.

When law enforcement arrived, they arrested 19-year-old Alexandria Mosher and 22-year-old Dominic Wood from Lima. They were found with items from the homeowner’s house. The sheriff’s office stated that both were charged with second-degree larceny but were released after their arraignment.

The sheriff’s office noted that the homeowner would not face any charges in this incident. “Just a heads up: be clear on when you can legally use deadly force,” Lago emphasized. He clarified that the homeowner’s actions did not qualify as such.

Ultimately, the department stressed that avoiding additional victims—whether they be suspects or innocent bystanders—is crucial. “It’s better to be a good witness than to put yourself at unnecessary risk,” Lago concluded.
