BORDERTOWN, USA — Police in Charlotte, South Carolina, have arrested an 18-year-old Honduran migrant in connection with a random shooting that left one person dead. Local news reports say the migrant illegally crossed the border into the United States from Mexico.
Investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested 18-year-old Carlos Roberto Diaz for the murder of a Charlotte resident. WSOC-TV9 Reports Sources say Roberto Diaz crossed the Mexican border into Texas with his father in 2019 and illegally entered the U.S. The sources did not explain what happened to Roberto Diaz after his encounter with Border Patrol agents.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the arrest of the Honduran national follows an investigation into a shooting that began around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Suspect Roberto Diaz and an unnamed 16-year-old boy are accused of starting a series of random shootings that left one local resident dead and several others injured.

“These were brazen crimes that put our community at risk and threatened the safety of our community,” CMPD Police Chief Johnny Jennings told reporters at a news conference. “CMPD officers took this personally. They took this as a threat to the safety of the citizens of Charlotte and acted appropriately.”
Police initially arrested a 16-year-old boy after spotting a suspicious vehicle in the early morning hours of July 11. After stopping the car for a traffic violation, officers arrested the boy on suspicion of murder and another random shooting. Officers also seized firearms and the vehicle.
During questioning, the boy identified Roberto Diaz as the second suspect.
Police said the first person shot was identified as 58-year-old Mustafa Muhammad. Police found him dead in the roadway next to his car. Charlotte Observer report.
According to police, Carlos Roberto Diaz is accused of:
- Murder (1st degree)
- Firing at an occupied vehicle (x2)
- Conspiracy to murder
- Attempted murder (x5)
- Shooting of an occupied dwelling (2x)
- Assault with intent to kill or inflict serious bodily injury
The unidentified juvenile is also charged with first-degree murder of Muhammad.
Breitbart Texas reached out to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officials to confirm Roberto Diaz’s immigration status. Officials were unable to confirm the report from WCSO or whether an immigration detention order had been issued by ICE. Breitbart also reached out to ICE for additional information regarding the status of the alleged Honduran migrant.
A prison official told Breitbart that Roberto Diaz is being held on $100,000 bail.
