Honey Boo Boo star shares frightening experiences with her father and explains their broken relationship.

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson Reflects on Family Struggles

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson recently appeared in an interview discussing the complexities of her upbringing, especially focusing on her father’s behavior during a significant family incident. Over the weekend, her biopic, “I Was Honey Boo Boo,” debuted, sparking conversations about her father’s role in a 2014 car accident involving her family.

“There were times when my dad was really angry, and he struggled with his anger issues,” the 19-year-old shared. Alana recounted feeling uncertain about what might happen next when her father got upset. She mentioned that his anger manifested in destructive ways—throwing things around and damaging property—which was understandably frightening for her.

In 2014, while driving with the family, her father, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, got into a car accident in Georgia after another vehicle collided with theirs. At that time, Alana’s mother, “Mama June” Shannon, released a statement expressing their fear and highlighting that the family still planned to celebrate Alana’s sister Lauryn’s birthday despite the distressing event.

Alana also indicated that she no longer has any contact with her father. She stated, “I haven’t spoken to him for a very long time. I can’t even recall when our last conversation was.” Reflecting on difficult family moments, she mentioned excluding certain events from her story due to their complexity. “I just felt it was too hard to look back on,” she added.

Despite the challenges, Alana feels she has grown more comfortable moving past her father’s absence, albeit acknowledging that he hasn’t fully been the father she needed. She gained fame initially on “Toddlers & Tiaras,” which eventually led to the spin-off series “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”

As of now, Mike’s representative has not responded to requests for comment regarding the interview.
