Hong Kong halts postal service for US-bound goods over Trump’s ‘bullying’ tariffs | Hong Kong

Hong Kong Post said on Wednesday it would halt the mailing service at sea to the US and will halt airmail postal service for items containing goods from April 27 due to US tariffs.

When sending items to the US, Hong Kong people “have to be prepared to pay prohibitive and unreasonable fees for the irrational and bullied conduct of the US,” the Hong Kong Post said in a statement.

“The United States is irrational and abuses tariffs through bullying,” he said. “The Hong Kong Post will not guarantee that it will collect so-called tariffs on behalf of the US.”

Other mail items that contain only documents without products are not affected.

According to a US government notice, Hong Kong, China’s special administrative region, is subject to the same tariffs as China.

The Hong Kong Post said the suspension was due to the US government’s elimination of the “de minimus” exemption and increased tariffs on mail items from Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has long been known as a free and open trade hub, but China’s imposition of China’s former British colonies in 2020 sparked criticism from the US, leading to an end to the special status of financial hubs under US law.
