Remembering Voddie Baucham Jr.
Pastor, evangelist, author, and influential Christian figure Voddie Baucham Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Thursday. He was 56 years old and loved Jesus deeply.
A statement shared by those close to him expressed their sorrow, saying, “We are sad to inform our friends that our dear brother, Voddie Baucham Jr., has left the land of death and entered the land of the living.” It highlighted his final moments, where he prayed as a university student might.
They referenced Psalm 116:15, which notes, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
A Life of Victory
Baucham’s journey was marked by resilience. Growing up in projects in Los Angeles with a Buddhist mother, he was encouraged not to let circumstances define him. His mother insisted he excel academically, promoting a strong work ethic.
During his freshman year at university, he became a Christian through the Campus Crusade for Christ. It was also there he met Bridget, whom he wed six months later. Both came from families with significant relationship challenges, yet they managed to create a lasting marriage, raising nine children together. Along the way, Baucham diligently pursued education, ultimately earning a PhD in theology. His achievements included writing several books and leading academic institutions, such as the founding seminary of Cape Coral and contributing to the seminary in Lusaka, Zambia.
His website notes that Baucham understood skepticism and navigated Christian life without leaning on traditional male perspectives, allowing him to communicate effectively with broader audiences.
