The rescuer groaned to hear while trying to pull him out.
“One, two, pull!” and “Oh, baby. We got the YA!” they said.
Saratoga Springs police officer Kyle Clinton was the first to arrive, and Sly's owner Ali Ernst helped bring the entire horse back onto the ice.

They were soon joined by two more officers, neighbors and others, including their family.
A group of nine were able to eventually get sly out of the water. The horse was able to stand up within minutes.
He was taken to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, where Ernst works as an engineer.

Ernst said the Associated Press Sly had initially hypothermia but recovered on Wednesday, enough to get home.
Ernst initially noticed three horses playing in the pond when she got home from work, but that wasn't uncommon, the Associated Press reported. When she saw it again she saw Sly collapsed through the ice.
Before running, Ernst asked for help by placing his head on the ice to grab Sly's halter.
“I lost the fight to keep him alone on the water,” she said. “I started to throw all the ropes into the hole and pull it back in hopes of catching my hind legs.
