Suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Following Comments About Assassination
During “CNN News Central,” host Boris Sanchez suggested that Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night talk show host, implied that the assassin of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, may have been a supporter of former President Donald Trump.
Kimmel was suspended by ABC, following his comments made on Monday regarding the assassination that took place on September 10. Sanchez pointed out that Kimmel’s remarks seemed to suggest a political alignment without explicit confirmation. “What he said doesn’t seem to indicate that the suspect is a magazine shooter,” Sanchez argued.
It’s worth noting that ABC only took action after the FCC Chair’s threat to revoke their broadcast licenses and following statements from major station groups like Nexstar and Sinclair that they would preempt Kimmel’s show.
Kimmel’s suspension followed other controversial comments he made on social media, where he appeared to congratulate or justify the actions surrounding Kirk’s assassination. In a statement, he remarked, “We hit a new low over the weekend,” referring to the actions attempting to label the assailant beyond typical political boundaries.
Evidence presented by Utah Republican Spencer Cox during press conferences highlighted details from the manhunt for Tyler Robinson, who has been accused of shooting Kirk. Reports indicated Robinson’s “left-wing” beliefs, with slogans associated with that ideology found on the ammunition of the rifle.
The Federal Communications Commission has not yet responded to inquiries regarding this matter.
