Jon Lovett, co-host of “Pod Save America,” recently expressed difficulty in discussing former President Biden’s mental health, citing concerns over how such remarks might affect the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
He noted, “I remember feeling this was a big responsibility. It’s something Biden could overcome, but, well, I think he should step aside.” He shared this during his appearance on the Weekly Show with John Stewart.
Lovett added, “A, I really didn’t know what was happening behind the scenes, so if B, Biden remains the candidate, I want to support him wholeheartedly.”
In the lead-up to Biden’s final days in office, critics frequently scrutinized his muddled speech, suggesting that, as the oldest president, he might be facing cognitive issues. Yet, the president’s family and staff have dismissed these speculations. A new book by Jake Tupper and Alex Thompson, titled *Original Sin*, features insights from a Democratic insider who claims to have witnessed Biden’s decline.
The book recounts a meeting Lovett had with Biden in April 2024 alongside co-hosts John Favreau and Dan Pfeiffer. They reported that the president seemed to express a feeling of being “inconsistent.”
During a podcast on Thursday, Lovett mentioned he would refrain from voicing concerns publicly to avoid his words being misinterpreted and possibly used against Biden in a legal context.
