Hot Dogs on a Stick Expands Beyond California

Don’t overlook this classic Southern California establishment.

Hot Dogs on a Stick, known for its hand-squeezed lemonade and corn dogs, is gearing up for extensive growth following an $8 million acquisition by a Las Vegas company.

Amazing Brands, based in Las Vegas, has purchased the beloved franchise, believing it’s time to share its California roots with more Americans. They plan to move beyond traditional mall locations and extend into areas like the Las Vegas Strip and other markets.

“Hot Dogs on a Stick has primarily been a West Coast success, but we think it’s time to take it nationwide and, eventually, global,” said Steven Siegel, founder of Amazing Brands.

The plans include not just revitalizing the brand but also entering its “next chapter,” which may involve flagship locations on the Las Vegas Strip, drive-thrus, and eateries in amusement parks.

The company emphasized its unique position to mix nostalgia and fun with tasty food. “From stadiums to tourist spots and high-end retail outlets to independent restaurants and drive-thrus, Hot Dogs on a Stick is uniquely poised to attract a whole new generation of customers,” they stated.

Siegel expressed honor in leading the iconic brand forward, focusing on growth while maintaining the cherished traditions familiar to many, looking to re-establish Hot Dogs on a Stick as one of America’s iconic restaurant names.

The franchise has a rich history, originating on the Santa Monica Pier back in 1946. Founder Dave Barham initially named it Party Puffs before changing to the now-famous name after perfecting the hot dog on a stick.

Over the decades, the chain expanded significantly in the West, establishing over 100 stores in shopping malls where employees donned distinctive red, white, and blue uniforms. However, a decline in indoor mall popularity has led to a reduction in locations, with only 44 stores remaining today.

Siegel mentioned a personal connection to the brand, reflecting on his wife’s past role as a manager in Montebello, California, in the ’90s. “I grew up loving hot dogs on sticks,” he said, adding it’s a brand people remember fondly.

There are also thoughts about expanding products into grocery and retail environments, adding to the brand’s future. It’s a significant transition, and only time will tell how this classic concept navigates its new journey.
