Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA) has called for the immediate resignation of U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, becoming the first Democratic congressman to publicly call for this.
Boyle, who represents a suburban Philadelphia district, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday to air his frustration.
“In light of the shooting of a presidential candidate in western Pennsylvania last weekend, I call on Secretary Cheatle to resign immediately,” he said in a statement.
“The evidence that has emerged demonstrates unacceptable operational failures. If Director Cheatle remains in his position, I have no confidence in the leadership of the United States Secret Service.”
Director Cheatle must resign immediately.

The Pennsylvania congressman’s statement came within hours of reports that the Secret Service had “repeatedly rejected” requests for “additional resources and personnel” from the former president’s security force, Breitbart News reported.
of Washington Examiner Note Boyle joined several other Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), in calling for Cheatle’s resignation.
Other lawmakers, such as Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), have questioned Cheatle’s judgment and ability to do his job.

Earlier this week, she said she wasn’t going anywhere.
Cheatle, who previously served as senior director of global security for PepsiCo, is scheduled to appear at a congressional hearing on Monday to answer questions about the shooting.
