House Democrat raises alarm with haunting question about Clarence Thomas not complying with recusal demand

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Sunday wondered what would happen to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas if he recused himself from a case that could involve Donald Trump. He frowned.

Last month, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump was constitutionally unfit to serve as president, and Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows (Democrat) is set to make a similar decision. President Trump has not yet appealed the Colorado decision to the Supreme Court. The appeal could be heard as early as Tuesday..

But Democrats have already called on Thomas to recuse himself from any potential lawsuits. They discuss Thomas's wife's actions, Her beliefs about the 2020 electionThomas will no longer be able to judge fairly.

In fact, according to Raskin, the question is not whether Thomas should resign, but what to do if he doesn't.

“Anyone looking at this in a calm, rational way would say, 'If your wife is involved in the 'Big Lie,' claiming that Donald Trump actually won the presidential election, and instigating it,” 'If I had participated in the election,' he would say. You should not participate in any events before January 6th,” Raskin said on CNN on Sunday.

When anchor Dana Bash interrupted Raskin to ask if he thought Thomas should recuse himself, Raskin admitted, “Yeah, he absolutely should.”

“The question is, what if he doesn't decline?” the Democrat added.

Mr. Ruskin's question was interpreted as a veiled threat to thomas warns him What will be the consequences if he does not comply with the Democratic Party's demands for his resignation?

Additionally, the comment was interpreted as hinting at how Democrats would react if the Supreme Court were to take up Trump's appeal and rule that he is constitutionally qualified to be president. Democrats will try to decriminalize petition the Supreme Court Allow Trump to vote It's a threat to American democracy.

To be clear, there is no evidence that Thomas is compromising, that he would have a conflict of interest in future cases, or that his wife's political opinions influenced his decisions as a judge. There is absolutely no evidence that it will.
