First appearance on Fox: Congressman Andy Biggs is looking to artificial intelligence (AI) technology as a way to cut unnecessary government red tape.

Arizona Republicans are introducing a bill Tuesday that would require federal agencies to use AI to review their regulations, with the goal of cutting back on rules that don’t meet certain standards.

“American businesses must be given the opportunity to thrive without the overbearing, costly, contradictory and duplicative regulations that the D.C. Swamp mandates,” Biggs told Fox News Digital.

“Federal government overregulation is causing enormous damage to the U.S. economy. Thousands of new regulations are enacted every year, but there are simply not enough human resources or existing technology to scrutinize previously issued regulations. No. AI technology is an effective tool that can save taxpayers’ dollars, benefit American business owners, and spur economic growth. ”

Lawmakers have introduced a series of AI-related bills in the 118th Congress.

If passed, the bill would allow federal agencies and agencies to use “algorithmic tools and artificial intelligence” to “more efficiently, cost-effectively and accurately ” will examine regulatory policies.

This review may be “outdated,” “contain typographical errors,” “contain inaccurate cost references,” or “duplicate or overlap with federal regulations or standards.” It will flag the regulations.

The heads of these agencies will need to provide Congress with a detailed strategy on how to reform or eliminate these regulations.

A record number of AI-focused bills were introduced in both chambers of Congress during the 118th Congress, as lawmakers scramble to stay ahead of rapidly emerging technologies.

While many of these bills focus on mitigating the potential threats posed by AI, Biggs’ bill would allow lawmakers to use AI to streamline aspects of daily life and government operations. This is an example of how we are trying to utilize it.

A report used last year by the House Administration Committee said the House is already leveraging AI to streamline certain processes.

The December document lists current uses of AI by House staff, including “AI-assisted chatbots and other AI automation, help desk support,” and other uses of AI. This includes assisting with drafting emails, memos, and briefing memos to communicate with constituents.
