House GOP passes a resolution criticizing James Comey’s ’86 47′ post

Trump’s Allies Target Comey Over “86 47” Instagram Post

Recently, supporters of former President Donald Trump in the House have utilized their Congressional powers to take action against former FBI Director James Comey. They are particularly focused on his now-deleted Instagram post featuring the numbers “86 47.”

Representative August Pfluger, a Republican from Florida and chairman of the Republican Research Committee, collaborated with Representative Laurel Lee to propose a resolution. They accuse Comey of inciting violence against Trump. The resolution, spanning three pages, describes the Instagram post as “intrusive” while urging relevant authorities to pursue lawsuits to prevent him from holding any federal position in the future.

Additionally, Pfluger called on the Department of Justice to probe this matter and share their findings with both the pertinent House committee and the public.

That Instagram post, which came as Comey shared a photo of shells on a beach, was interpreted by some as a political statement. Trump’s allies quickly alleged that it suggested violence against him, causing a stir on social media. Comey later removed the post and clarified that he opposes all forms of violence, stating, “I had no intention of conveying a violent message. It never occurred to me that these numbers could allude to anything harmful.”

Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem stated that Comey is under investigation by the Trump administration in light of this incident.

Pfluger and Lee emphasized that Comey’s posting was made during Trump’s diplomatic trip to the Middle East. They also referenced two separate attempted attacks on Trump during the 2024 election cycle, highlighting concerns around safety and security. Notably, Lee has been involved in investigating violent incidents related to Trump.

The resolution argues that it is unacceptable for someone who once held a significant law enforcement role to engage in rhetoric that could incite violence. It calls for accountability and transparency, ensuring that Comey cannot again hold a trusted public position.

Fox News Digital reached out to Comey and his representatives for comment, but there was no response by the time of publication.
